The diary of a young girl ~ Anne Frank ~ is an intriguing book which helps us understand how hard it was living a normal life during the nd world war. Anne and her Family along with the Van Daan family and Mr Dussel were hiding in a ‘Secret Annex’ for two years during the Second World War.

One of Anne’s greatest difficulties was learn to deal with growing up in such a confined area compered to what she was used to. Anne also needs to learn how to live with people who don’t always agree with her and who look at thinks differently to her. In the final year that they 8 people were in the Annex, Anne realised that she felt something special of one of the other members, Peter Van Daan, and how hard it was to have a relationship with someone during this period of time.

The secret annex was a very small area for 8 people to live in. It was on the second floor of Mr Frank’s warehouse. It was hidden by a bookcase, which was attached to a door so people who went upstairs wouldn’t find them. The second floor was made up of a bedroom and living room in the entrance. Next there is a smaller room, the bedroom and study to Anne and her sister, Margot. There was also a bathroom next to the two rooms. During the first year of hiding, the eighth member joined the two families in hiding, Mr Dussel. Him and Anne slept in the same room while Margot was moved into her parent’s room. The bathroom had nothing except for a small sink. On the second floor there is another flight of stairs, which brings up to the where the Van Daans lived. It was a very spacious room, which was very bright, compared to down stairs. It contained a sink and a gas cooker. This room was made into the kitchen and bedroom for Mr and Mrs Van Daan. It was also for generally use for a living-area, dinning room and study for all the members of the Annex. The third floor also had a small room for the son of Mr and Mrs Van Daan, Peter. Toward the front of the building it had a large attic. Along with the small living area for the eight people, there were very strict rules that they had to abide by.

As you can tell, Anne would have found it very hard to grow up into a young lady in such a confined area where you could only communicate with the other seven people living with you. The worst part of this for Anne would have been the act that her and her mother don’t exactly see eye to eye in any situations. They always argue about anything and everything even if it is about leaving a needle in a quilt like mentioned in her diary entry of
