The Chief Executive Officer of IPC Media Ltd is Ms Sly Bailey who was promoted, in December 1, from Managing Director of IPC tx Ltd, which published TV listings. While at IPC tx Ltd she managed to increase the circulation of the TV listings magazines, it was this that eventually got her promoted to the position that she now holds. Ever since her promotion to CEO, she has increased circulation of many of the magazines that the company publishes, for example Marie Claire and TV Times. This can also be seen on the company accounts (see Fig 1.1) where in her initial year, the turnover went up by .5% and the pre-tax profits increased by just over %, which indicates that there was a dramatic decrease in the cost of sales.

I feel that human rights are being grossly violated in Burma. The people of Burma are acting and living for the self-interest of the military. They are deceived, murdered, manipulated, coerced, raped, abused, and treated as objects as if incapable of free choice.
Human rights demand that every human being should be able to live as free and respected members of society. In Burma, it is the military who determines who shall live and who shall have the right to freedom. This is a direct violation of human rights. Some of the human rights being violated are freedom of speech, freedom of choice, standard of living, no rules of law, right to individual welfare, rationalized food, child labor, forced labor, right to adequate pay, etc etc.
In addition, as a result of the military fixing prices in agricultural, Burma’s monetary system is useless throughout the rest of the world. To capture their profits, Pepsi purchases agricultural products in Burma and sells them to countries abroad where they are then able to transfer the money back to the US. This process is known as countertrading and is morally unjust as most agricultural products are farmed by forced labor. In many instances, the military confiscates the farmland and then forces the owners to work as slaves on their own farms. Although they were asked numerous times to provide details of their agricultural transactions, Pepsi resisted. Their resistance leads me to believe they were well aware of the social concerns in Burma.

They are there because the army is the only place a person can receive steady pay and benefits. By cutting off funding to the military, it will weaken and eventually crumble.
Another effective way of cutting funds is to raise public awareness. Public protests and boycotting is a way of communicating to the public that human rights and justice are being violated.
In addition to boycotting products, multinational companies that pull out of countries for morality issues can make a strong statement in favor of human rights. Like governments, large corporations have tremendous power and influence. The presence of a foreign corporation in a country can either support or interfere with the democratization process in that country. If it interferes, it can potentially mean the corporation becomes a source of money in support of evil.

I know of a girl that’s scared of something that’s more unusual than all those things. She is troubled to go to a place that millions of children her age go to everyday. What is this place? It’s her own school.
A 14-year old honors student armed with two high-powered handguns saunters into his school with the weapons in his “mesh” book bag. He walks down the swarming halls and into the doorway of a classroom un-noticed. The student opened fire pulling the trigger like it was nothing. In that instant he killed a teacher, another student, and critically wounded an innocent girl.
Furthermore, the girl’s and many others lives changed eternally. Not only does she not go to any kind of private or public school but also she is also frightened to go out in public. No one knows why this student committed this crime, but that doesn’t matter. What matters is this isn’t the only case like this.
For this reason, teachers need to be more cautious at school. In the situation above the student had the weapon in his mesh book bag. If the school is going to force the students to carry the mesh book bags for security reasons than they need to make sure there are no weapons in the safety wear. Also, parents and guardians have got to be more aware. Many students receive the guns from older siblings or parents. We, as Americans, must prevent the violence and guns from entering our schools.
In conclusion, my dream for America is to keep guns out of schools. Kids have to worry about too much at school already and they don’t need to have to worry about getting shot like numerous American kids do today. Although students are beginning to think so, schools aren’t shooting galleries. If we, as Americans, don’t do something about this violence than it will continue to get worse. So help out all you can by being aware of the problem. Help me fulfill my dream and America will be a better place.
